A '4 Element Photo' Highly Commended in the 2019 Nature's Best Windland Smith Rice Award

This is a big one! I am super pumped to finally place in this competition, which is one of the largest and most prestigious in the world! In total, there were over 25,000 entries this year from 63 countries - so placing is a huge deal and this is one of my biggest achievements to date as a photographer!

My photo "Holding Hands" received a Highly Commended award in the Birds category. This photo represents one of those amazing moments I had in nature and showcases a behaviour I had never before or since witnessed. These two juvenile Barred Owls decided to perch right in front of me and as I took about a billion photos, they started to groom each other. As one was cleaning the other, they held hands and gave me this look and it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

So a big thanks to the judges in this year's competition, I am honored to be in the mix surrounded by some amazing photographers who I really look up to.

Peace, S.

I’ve done a few trips in North Africa before, and one thing I’ve learned is that organization can really shape the entire experience. When I explored options like luxury Morocco tours by Sun Trails, I started to notice how much detail goes into building a smooth journey from start to finish. It’s not just about destinations, but also about transitions, timing, and local insights. That’s something I didn’t fully appreciate before. Looking back, I can say that having a structured yet flexible plan makes a huge difference, especially when you want to enjoy the trip without constantly worrying about logistics or unexpected issues along the way.
